American Electric Power - Roth 401k Plan Scan 12/31/2008

This is the first Roth 401k plan I have seen among the S&P 500 companies. It got my attention. The participant directed investments are over $2.3B dollars as of 12/31/2008. The plan is large and the SEC11-k document is long, 45 pages long. The plan investments exceeding 5% were AEP company stock $268M, EB Daily Liquidity Aggregate Bond Index Fund $267M, EB Daily Liquidity Stock Index Fund $277M, EB Daily Liquidity International Stock Index Fund $165M and an Intermediate Term Bond Fund $728M. In the scan these were AEP, MCM.agg, MCM.stx, MCM.efa, and VBIIX.

The above catagories include hundreds of individual stocks and mutual funds. I slected 16 of the mutual funds to include with the above catagory investments to be able to compare the large catagory (5%) investment performance with familiar individual mutual fund investements. Note that individual mutual funds account for only $33M of the $2.3B dollar plan. As you can see in the 3D scan asset allocation only two of the large catagory investments MCM.agg and VBIIX are in the Balanced portfolio.
